The Atlanta Dream surrendered a seven-point lead in the fourth quarter and came up on the short end to the Phoenix Mercury 95-87 Sunday evening at Philips Arena.

Late Rally Doom Dream in Loss to Mercury
- The Dream fell victim to a late 23-6 run in the final seven minutes of the fourth quarter as they lost to the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday. This marks the Dream’s sixth straight defeat – matching their longest losing streak in 2015.
- The Dream saw four players reach double-figures in scoring. Tiffany Hayes led the way with 26 points, Angel McCoughtry scored 22 points, Elizabeth Williams added 13 points while Layshia Clarendon notched 11.
- Sunday’s loss marks the Dream’s third-straight defeat at the hands of the Mercury. Phoenix leads the season series 11-6
- Coach Cooper’s Take: “We need to do all the little things: 50-50 balls, hustle plays, and rebounding.”
- Player’s Take: “We have to play more disciplined in the end. I think in the third quarter we lost our focus. We just have to put together four complete quarters”, said Hayes after the game.
Three Key Stats From Sundays Loss:
- The Dream are now 0-7 this season when making fewer free throws than their opponent. The Mercury finished the game with 22 free throws made while the Dream made 15.
- The Dream shot 34% from the field. They’re now 1-5 when shooting under 40% from the field.
- The Mercury finished with 95 points in Sunday’s game. The Dream fall to 2-4 when allowing their opponents to score 90-99 points.
Tiffany Hayes Scores 26 Points
- Dream Guard Tiffany Hayes followed up her career-high 32 point game against the Sparks with a 26-point performance in Sunday’s loss.
- Hayes has now scored double-figure points in 12 of 16 games this season.
McCoughtry Bounces Back With 22 Points
- Following her nine-point game against the Sparks, Dream Forward Angel McCoughtry bounced back with a 22-point performance against the Mercury on Sunday.
- McCoughtry has now scored 20 points in 11 of the last 15 games overall.
Elizabeth Williams Falls One Rebound Shy of Double-Double
- Dream Center Elizabeth Williams fell one rebound shy of her second-straight double-double with her 13-point and nine-rebound game against the Mercury.
- Sunday’s game marked the third-straight game in which Williams did not record a block. Williams entered the contest second in the WNBA in blocks with 2.2 blocks per game, behind only Phoenix’s Brittney Griner.
Player of the Game: Brittney Griner
- Mercury Center Brittney Griner recorded a triple-double with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocked shots. Her presence in the paint made a huge impact late in the game and helped Phoenix pull away in the final minutes of fourth quarter.

The Dream will continue their three-game homestand on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. when they play Breanna Stewart, Sue Bird and the Seattle Storm. After a visit from the Storm, the Dream will wrap up their homestand at Philips Arena Friday night in a 7:30 p.m. tip off against Skylar Diggins and the Dallas Wings.
