Dream Overseas Report - March 17
While fans of women’s basketball turn their attention to the college game and filling out their brackets for March Madness, Atlanta Dream veterans and future players were racing to the finish lines in their respective overseas leagues.
Which player competed in three games last week? Winning them all? Which player’s team is guaranteed a shot in their nation’s championship series with a semifinals sweep of their opponents?
For the answers to those questions and more, read below in the Dream Overseas Report.
Matee Ajavon
(Energa Torun, Poland)
Tuesday, March 15 must have been a very happy day for Energa Torun as it faced the cellar-dwelling MUKS Poznan team at home, winning 79-56. Energa Torun has a 9-12 record and resides in seventh place in the Polish league with three regular season games to go. It could have been closer, as Energa Torun only led 38-37 at halftime but the visitors were held to just 19 second-half points and were out-rebounded 45 to 26.

Cierra Burdick
(Napoli, Italy)
On Sunday, Napoli traveled to Torino and lost 75-66, sinking Napoli to a 9-14 record for the regular season with three games to play. The loss should drop Napoli to ninth place and only the top eight teams qualified for the postseason last year.

(Battipaglia, Italy)
On Sunday, Battipaglia hosted Venezia and fell 78-59 to the higher ranked opponent. The loss drops Battipaglia to 9-13 on the regular season but they might be higher ranked than Napoli due to Battipaglia having a couple of overtime wins.

(Miskolc, Hungary)
Miskolc is not scheduled to play again until March 19 against ZTE NKK. It appears that the regular season in Hungary ends on March 26. Miskolc’s 11-5 record should be good enough to make the postseason.
Sancho Lyttle
(UMMC, Ekaterinburg)
On Friday, March 11 Sancho Lyttle’s UMMC team took on Galatasaray for the second game of a best-of-three quarterfinals series. They were hoping to finish the series in two games, but Gala won the second meeting 66-57 to send the series to a decisive third game in Russia. Sancho Lyttle did not play in that contest, and undoubtedly Galatasaray took advantage of her absence.
The final game of the three-game series takes place on March 16.

Mersin’s game against Galatasaray on March 13 has been postponed, the reason being that Galatasaray has its hands full with UMMC in the Euroleague quarterfinals.
