Teams are winding down their regular seasons and getting into championship shape. One Atlanta player will be bringing home the successful glow of her European domestic league team winning a championship.  Another player came within one assist of scoring a triple-double against a top ranked European team.  A third player prepared for her domestic league playoffs as her squad finished a perfect regular season.  To find the names of the players who accomplished these feats, all you have to do is read this week’s Dream Overseas Report!

Matee Ajavon

(Energa Torun, Poland)

The regular season is over in Poland and Ajavon’s Energa Torun team finished in seventh place with a 9-13 record.  Torun takes on No. 2 team Wisla Krakow in a quarterfinals match which is a best-of-three series.  The three games will take place on March 30, April 2 and April 9.  The winner of this series faces the Polkowice-Gdynia winner in the semifinals.

Cierra Burdick

(Napoli, Italy)

Last Friday Napoli faced Cagliari CUS at home and won 80-54, advancing to an 11-14 record with one more regular season game to go on April 10.  This game was played in an empty gym, with Napoli closing the facilities to spectators for reasons that aren’t entirely clear.  Napoli started the game down 7-0 until an 11-0 spurt in the second quarter put the team on top.  Furthermore, Napoli scored 49 points in the second half and won the rebounding battle 49-22.

Napol:  Gintare Petronyte 22/17 reb, Sara Bocchetti 19/7 reb, Noelle Quinn 16,  Burdick 15/16 reb.

Cagliari CUS:   Nikolina Milic 28/10 reb, Samantha Prahalis 11.

Last Wednesday was another step towards UMMC’s undefeated Russian league season as it moved to 21-0 overall with a 103-47 demolishing of Spartak Noginsk.  After a tight 24-22 first quarter, UMMC ran away with the game, including a 23-4 third quarter that buried Noginsk’s hopes. Monday was the final game of the regular season and UMMC hosted second-place team Nadezhda Orenburg.  Could UMMC finish with a perfect record?  The answer was “yes” as UMMC won 75-62 to finish with a No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

Lyttle scored a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds and added six assists.  Nadezhda hit 13 of 14 free throw attempts to keep the game close but turned the ball over 18 times.  UMMC will face No. 8 seed Dynamo-GUVD in the first round of the post-season playoffs in a best-of-three series starting April 2.
