Dream Overseas Report – Jan. 7
It’s always a tough week coming back from vacation. As the Christmas break ends, not every player is back with her team. One Dream player suffers an injury and another Dream player scores 33 points in a game but is unable to carry her team to victory. Who is winning and who is losing? Find out in this week’s Dream Overseas Report!
Matee Ajavon
(Energa Torun, Poland)
Ajavon’s team will return to regular season play on January 9.
Cierra Burdick
(Napoli, Italy)
On Sunday, January 3 Burdick’s team traveled to San Giovanni and picked up a 71-64 victory to move to above .500 at 7-6. Napoli was never behind and shot 19-for-19 from the free throw line.
Napoli: Ginare Petronyte 23/18 reb/5 steals, Chiara Pastore 17, Noelle Quinn 8/10 reb, Burdick 4 (14 minutes played).
San Giovanni: Simina Mandache 18, Antiesha Brown (New Mexico 2015) 16, Elisa Ercoli 10/9 reb.

Sydney Carter
(TTT Riga, Latvia)
Carter will not play in Eurocup until January 7 and her next EEWBL game is January 9.
Damiris Dantas
As the clubs from the women’s pro circuit and the Braziian basketball federation continue their dispute, Damiris Dantas suffered a left leg tibia stress injury and was cut from the Brazilian women’s national team. Currently, I haven’t been able to find out anything about the seriousness of the injury or how long she will be away from playing basketball. Hopefully, she’ll be okay in time for the start of the 2016 WNBA season.
Reshanda Gray
(Battipaglia, Italy)
On Sunday, January 3rd, Battipaglia hosted Torino and lost 84-76, falling to 5-8 on the season. Both Gray and Kourtney Treffers had a hard time with the Torino defenders. Battipaglia head coach Massimo Riga was ejected after just three minutes in the third quarter. Gray played virtually the entire game for Battipaglia.
Battipaglia: Gray 21/15 reb, Kourtney Treffers 18/6 reb, Valentina Bonasia 12/6 reb, Asia Boyd 6.
Torino: Yvonne Anderson (Texas 2012) 31, Jenna Smith (Illinois 2010) 19/12 reb, Katerina Soteriou 14, Ada Puliti 11/6 reb.

Tiffany Hayes
(Yakin Dogu, Turkey)
Hayes’s Yakin Dogu team fell further in Turkish league play to 4-8 on December 30 with a 76-59 loss to Botas. It was the fifth straight loss for Yakin Dogu. Yakin Dogu would only make five out of 12 free throw attempts and commit 22 personal fouls. The reports I’ve read complain of both poor offense and poor defense from Yakin Dogu in the second half, as the first half finished with Yakin Dogu just down 36-30. As the home squad, Yakin Dogu was just 4-for-26 from three point range but Botas went 8-for-20 in their attempts from behind the arc.
Yakin Dogu: Marica Gajic 22/10 rebounds, Kelsey Bone 9/9 rebounds, Alyssa Thomas 7/9 rebounds, Hayes 4/4 fouls (19 minutes played).
Botas: Evanthia Malsi 20/5 assists, Avery Warley 15/13 rebounds, Pelin Bilgic 13/5 assists, Milica Jovanovich 13.
On Sunday the 3rd Yakin Dogu traveled to Canik Blvd and lost by three points as the 79-76 defeat dropped Yakin Dogu to 4-9 overall. With such a close game, you’d think there would be a lot about it on line, but you’d be wrong.
Yakin Dogu: Kelsey Bone 18/9 reb, Ana Dabovic 16, Alyssa Thomas 15/15 reb, Hayes 15/7 reb.
Canik Blvd: Natasha Lacy 19/7 reb/10 ast, Essence Carson 18, Zane Teilane-Tamane 12, Burcu Cigil 11.

Aneika Henry/Angel McCoughtry
(Mersin, Turkey)
On December 30, Mersin took to the road and beat last-place fellow Mersin team Adana ASKI with a 75-65 performance. The win moves Mersin to 9-3 for the year and puts them in a tie for second place in the Turkish league. There’s not much to write about this game as Mersin was up 34-12 after the first quarter and were never challenged. Mersin was sent to the free throw line 21 times and hit 18 shots.
Mersin: McCoughtry 27/6 rebounds, Bria Hartley 20/6 rebounds/5 assists, Henry 14/13 rebounds, Marina Kuzina 12/7 rebounds.
Adana ASKI: Amanda Zahui B. 17/8 rebounds, Kamile Nacickaite 11.
On January 3, Mersin would lose a close game at home to Hatay, 77-72. The loss puts Mersin at 9-4 on the season so far and tied for third in the Turkish league with two other teams. Angel McCoughtry tried to put the team on her back – see her scoring totals below – but to no avail. Part of Mersin’s problem was that Aneika Henry suffered foul trouble and Natalie Hurst had a good fourth quarter performance.
Hatay head coach Ekin Bas was expelled at the 14 minute mark with two technical fouls.
Mersin: McCoughtry 33/10 reb/6 stl/5 ast, Henry 13, Bria Hartley 10.
Hatay: Natalie Hurst 23/7 ast, Katerina Snytsina 17/7 reb, Bahar Ozturk 14, Courtney Paris 8/15 reb.

Sancho Lyttle
(UMMC, Ekaterinburg)
On Tuesday, January 5, UMMC beat Kazanochka 91-42 to stay undefeated in the Russian league at 12-0 but Sancho Lyttle did not take part in that game. Haven’t been able to find any reason why, but if I find out, you’ll know.
