Atlanta Dream outlast Washington Mystics 73-67

ATLANTA, Ga. -- (5/29/2024) Going back-and-forth with the Washington Mystics for over three quarters, the Dream put together a 14-4 run in the final minutes of the fourth quarter to put away Washington, 73-67
In a win that required widespread effort to stifle the Mystics, five Dream players finished scoring in double figures. Atlanta’s record improves to 3-1 overall and 2-1 on the road.
Head coach Tanisha Wright elected to use a starting lineup of Haley Jones, Rhyne Howard, Allisha Gray, Chyenne Parker-Tyus and Tina Charles for the fifth consecutive time this season.
Gray led the Dream with 19 points, shooting 66.7% from 3-point range. Charles paced Atlanta’s rebounding once more, grabbing a season high of 15 total boards. Adding 17 points, the veteran center also recorded her third double-double of the season.
By the end of the first half, Charles had already recorded a 14-point, 13-rebound double-double and had tied Washington’s rebounds total as a team.
As Atlanta remained close with Washington throughout the first half, Aerial Powers emerged from Atlanta’s bench rotation with a boost of offensive momentum.
Powers went 3-for-4 from the field and shot 100% from 3-point range to keep Atlanta tied with Washington to end the third 54-54. By the end of the night, the guard had marked a season high in both points and minutes played.
Entering the fourth tied once again, Atlanta came together on both sides of the ball to produce a 14-4 run. Defensively, the Dream held the Mystics to shooting just 22.2% from the field and 9.1% from 3-point range. The group also tied its season high in steals, totaling nine.
Howard and Parker-Tyus fueled the Dream offensively as the team sought to finally put away Washington.
Howard shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line, finishing with eight points, one rebound and one assist in the fourth. Parker-Tyus chipped in an additional six points and one rebound.
Next, the Dream return to Gateway Center Arena to host the Las Vegas Aces at Gateway Center on May 31. The matchup will tip off at 7:30 p.m. EST and stream on ION TV.
