Historic Night for Reese as Dream Goes 4-0 on West Coast Road Trip

Angel Reese set the WNBA record for rebounds in a game and a season, and the Atlanta Dream completed a perfect road trip with a 78-71victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Monday at Crypto.com Arena.

Reese’s 20th rebound gave her 452 this season, breaking the record set by A’ja Wilson in 2024. Reese grabbed the record-breaker with 7:47 left in the game. Reese finished with 26 rebounds, breaking the single-game record (24) set by Chamique Holdsclaw in 2003. Reese had 11 points to finish with her 26th double-double this season.

“A WNBA record for rebounds in a game is pretty remarkable to witness,” said Dream Head Coach Karl Smesko.  “She (Angel) has played at an extraordinary level on this road trip and I think that will continue.”

“It means a lot,” Reese said about the records.  “I want to be able to show up for my team every night and when I do the personal goals come with it.”

That wasn’t the only individual achievement for a Dream player in the game.

Allisha Gray set a new franchise mark for field goals made (247) when she sank her fifth shot early in the third quarter. It was a 3-pointer with 8:54 left. Gray broke a record that she shared with Angel McCoughtry.  Gray led the Dream with 20 points.

Rhyne Howard scored her 3,000th career point on a 3-pointer with 7:43 remaining. Howard finished with 18 points.

The win was Atlanta’s fourth consecutive, all notched on its West Coast trip. The team will host Portland on Friday.

The Dream closed to within a game of second-place Golden State in the playoff-seeding race and moved three games ahead of eighth-place Dallas for the final playoff spot.

Monday’s game started much differently than when the two teams played last week. In that one, the Dream jumped to a 34-12 lead in the first quarter, and 62-41 lead at halftime. On Monday, the Sparks had a 37-36 halftime lead. Atlanta committed 10 turnovers in the half.

Atlanta took a lead in the third quarter by attacking the basket, rather than attempting 3-pointers. Jordan Canada, Howard and Gray were especially effective, combining for 20 points on the night.
