Dream Teams Up with Black Women Photographers for 2022 Season

ATLANTA, GA (April 23, 2022) – The Atlanta Dream and Black Women Photographers announced today a new collaboration that will make photographer Allie Jest the Dream’s official photographer for the 2022 WNBA Season.

“This partnership is truly a Dream come true. As someone who has grown up watching the game and has tried many times to break into the world of sports as a career, I know how hard it can be for that door to open,” said Black Women Photographers founder Polly Irungu. “Partnering with the Atlanta Dream organization to hire members of Black Women Photographers throughout the season will not open a door for the photographers selected, but it will open doors across the league and for the next generation of Black women photographers. The Atlanta Dream has always been an organization to lead the way, and they are continuing to do that with this partnership. I am so grateful to Renee Montgomery, Dan Goldberger, and Kelsey Bibik, for believing in this community and recognizing the importance of having a Black woman photographer to help tell the story of the Dream and of their incredible athletes.”

Black Women Photographers (BWP) is a global community, directory, and center of over 1,000 Black women and non-binary identifying photographers spanning over 50 nations and 35+ US states, founded by Polly Irungu and debuted in July of 2020. Black Women Photographers is a place where Black women may be recognized for their work and, more importantly, get hired. It helps its members by marketing their work in an active database provided to photo editors, directors, curators, and art buyers, with the goal of increasing access to professional and paid opportunities for Black creatives around the world.

The Dream looks forward to this exciting collaboration and the continuation of bringing talented minority women to the forefront of the community. This collaboration is just the beginning of the Dream’s initiative to showcase Atlanta’s home-grown talent.

“I am so excited about the opportunity to amplify the presence of WNBA players and contribute to their cultural influence,” Jest said. “I want to thank Polly for creating this relationship between BWP and the Atlanta Dream. This industry is so hard to break into and she continues to open doors for Black women photographers.”
