Allisha Gray moved into fourth place on the Dream’s all-time scoring list in Atlanta’s 79-74 loss to Washington at CareFirst Arena on Friday.

Her accomplishment was the highlight for the Dream, which fought back in the fourth quarter but couldn’t overcome a first half in which it shot 26.2% and Washington shot 51.6% as the hosts built a 12-point lead.

It was the Dream’s (19-12) second loss in three games and another in which it struggled shooting. It’s 32.5% shooting was its lowest mark this season.

Gray finished with a team-high 26 points to increase her points total with the Dream to 2,635. She trails Sancho Lyttle (2,630), Tiffany Hayes (3,828), and Angel McCoughtry (5,468) on the franchise’s all-time list.

Howard finished with 19 points. She and Gray were the only two Dream players to score more than nine points.

Washington’s bench outscored Atlanta’s 29-8.

Trailing by 16 to start the fourth, the Dream tried to rally behind Howard and Gray.

Howard hit two long 3-pointers to cut Washington’s lead to seven with 5:52 remaining in the fourth quarter. Howard’s first was from 30 feet and her second from 32 feet.

A timeout was called after Howard’s second 3-pointer.

Howard hit two free throws to decrease the Dream’s deficit to 74-66 with 3:01 remaining. Jordin Canada hit one of two free throws to cut Atlanta’s gap to 74-67 with 2:31 remaining. Bri Jones followed with a layup to reduce Washington’s lead to 74-69 with 1:54 remaining.

Gray hit a driving layup to whittle Washington’s advantage to 77-74 with 32 seconds remaining.

Washington ended the threat with a layup by Shakira Austin to increase its lead to five with nine seconds remaining and hold on for the win.

The Dream returns home Monday with a 8 pm ET matchup against Toronto at Gateway Center Arena.
