LIL FATE featuring Matee Ajavon – “Livin Out Tha Dream”:

Cierra Burdick
(Napoli, Italy)

On Sunday, Napoli had to travel on the road to take on the toughest team in Italy, Familia Schio.  The 80-47 loss by Napoli was no surprise.  Napoli was held to just 30 percent and was down by 10 points before the first quarter was over.

Five players scored in double figures for Schio, led by Jolene Anderson with 19 points and Laura Macchi with 17 points.  For Napoli, Burdick was the only player who scored in double figures with 12 points and Noelle Quinn was held to just four points.  Natalie Achonwa did not play for Napoli.

Burdick is averaging 7.8 ppg/9.0 rpg over four games.  Her team is 2-2 and in sixth place in the Italian league.

Carla Cortijo
 (Gigantes de Carolina, Puerto Rico)

For those who have been interested in Cortijo’s dream of playing with Atlanta, Puerto Rico’s MujerDeportivaRD.com reported that she has now been offered an official invitation to training camp next season.  According to Cortijo, training camp should take place sometime in April 2016.

The Gigantes team played two regular season games this week.  (The final regular season games in Puerto Rico will be played on October 29).  The first game on Thursday saw Gigantes take on Mayaguez, winning 83-73, extending their home streak to eight games and their record to 5-0 since new coach Carlos Calcaño took over.  With 7:20 left Mayaguez closed to 66-60 but Gigantes would score the next 10 points.  However, Cortijo did not play in that game, sidelined by foot problems.

On Saturday, Cortijo’s team beat Ponce 82-51.  She was back in action for this one, scoring 8 points/6 assists in 25 minutes of play.  Marissa Kastanek led all scorers on both squads with 18 points.

Gigantes has two more games left in the regular season, which ends October 29.

Tiffany Hayes
(Yakin Dogu, Turkey)

On Friday, Yakin Dogu traveled to Galatasaray, one of the premiere teams in Turkish basketball and in all of Europe.  They lost 85-74.  Yakin Dogu shot 48 percent but Galatasaray shot 52 percent and was 6-for-15 behind the 3-point line.

Once again, Yakin Dogu’s scoring comes primarily from Alyssa Thomas (25 points/10 rebounds) and Hayes (23 points).  Kelsey Bone added seven points in the loss.  As for Gala, five players scored in double figures including Jewell Loyd with 16 points.

Yakin Dogu is now 1-1 on the season.  Hayes is averaging 24.5 points per game.

Aneika Henry, Angel McCoughtry
(Mersin, Turkey)

Saturday saw Angel McCoughtry joining her Dream teammate Aneika Henry at Mersin for the first time as McCoughtry’s old team, Fenerbahce, came to visit.

Mersin would lose that game but it would be close, 79-74, with Fener pulling it out in the final quarter in a game where both sides shot over 50 percent.

Four players scored in double figures for Mersin.  McCoughtry had 25 points/9 rebounds in her first game in Turkey, Henry had 10 points/10 rebounds and Bria Hartley had 17 points in a losing effort.  For Fener, Allie Quigley led all scorers with 29 points.  Jantel Lavender would add 13 points and Quanitra Hollingsworth would score eight for Fener.    Not too much info about this game, but I read a site where it was reported that Fener won because they made the fewer errors in the final period.

Mersin has started the season 0-2.  Over her two games, Henry has averaged 12.5 ppg/10.5 rpg.

Sancho Lyttle
(UMMC Ekaterinburg, Russia)

On Thursday, Lyttle’s UMMC team had to go on the road again, this time to play their fellow Russian league team Nadezhda in Group B Euroleague play.  They would win that game 64-54 to remain undefeated in their Euroleague games.  Nadezhda was only behind by one point, 47-46 with 8:12 left in the game but UMMC went on an 11-0 run to remove any doubt.

Sandrine Gruda led all players with 18 points/7 rebounds for UMMC.  Nadezhda’s Elena Kirrilova and Kayla McBride each had 16 points for Nadezhda.  Lyttle had 6 points/5 rebounds in 21 minutes of play.

At home on Sunday, UMMC slaughtered Dynamo-GUVD 101-50 in domestic league play.  Sancho Lyttle did not take part in the game.  Candace Parker led UMMC with 23 points and six rebounds.  The only WNBA-level player on Dynamo-GUVD was Kayla Alexander with 23 points.
