Atlanta Dream Sign Allisha Gray to Contract Extension

ATLANTA, Ga. (March 7, 2023) – The Atlanta Dream have extended the contract of newly-acquired guard Allisha Gray, the organization announced today.

“Having Allisha committed to our squad long-term is another big step in solidifying our core for the future,” said Head Coach Tanisha Wright. “Not only is Gray an amazing addition on the court, but who she is as a person will be a great representation for our organization off the court.”

The Dream acquired Gray in a trade that sent the team’s 2023 No. 3 pick and 2025 first round pick to the Dallas Wings earlier this year. She joins the Dream after a career-best season with the Wings in 2022 where she averaged 13.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.

“This is an amazing opportunity to make Atlanta my home,” Gray said. “This organization and this fan base have already been so welcoming to me and I haven’t even put on a Dream jersey yet. I’m grateful  to be a part of what Tanisha and Dan are building here and I’m excited to get to work.”

The 2017 WNBA Rookie of the Year, Gray took home a gold medal in the first Olympics 3×3 competition at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. She was named the 2021 USA Basketball 3×3 Athlete of the Year after helping lead the USA to their gold medal and is now 27-3 all-time representing USA five-on-five and 3×3 national teams.

“Just as we stated when we first acquired Allisha, this is a big win for our franchise,” said General Manager Dan Padover. “Allisha’s game speaks for itself and she is going to play a pivotal role in our pursuit to becoming a contender. We and Allisha can now gain comfort in knowing this isn’t a short term stay and we’re in this together.”

Gray, a graduate of Washington County High School in Sandersville, Ga., returns to the southeast for the first time in her career this summer since she won the NCAA National Championship with the South Carolina Gamecocks in 2017.
