ATLANTA (Feb. 23, 2021) – The Atlanta Dream and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield (Anthem) today announced a multi-year partnership aimed at addressing social injustice and promoting health and well-being throughout metro Atlanta.
The two organizations will team up to make an impact on under-resourced Atlanta communities, with a focus on food insecurity, mental health and health disparities, by hosting food drives, health screenings and social justice initiatives, in some cases engaging the Dream’s brand-new mascot, which will be unveiled in April, in community outreach.
“We are excited to build a long-term partnership with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield that will benefit Atlanta and the surrounding communities,” Dream President & General Manager Chris Sienko said. “Their commitment to social justice, and focus on health and wellness are aligned with that of the Dream. Partnerships are collaborative, and this will be a great way to work together to make a difference.”
“Anthem’s goal is to make health, not just healthcare, more affordable, while also addressing the inequities prevalent in our communities and healthcare system,” said Pamela Stahl, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Georgia. “As a company that has been rooted in Georgia communities for more than 75 years, we are excited to partner with the Atlanta Dream to make a measurable impact – through education, awareness and community health initiatives– on the health of individuals and families in and around Atlanta.
The partnership with the Dream is one of four WNBA franchise partnerships recently launched by Anthem companies, with New York, Los Angeles, and Indiana rounding out the list. These commitments directly align with Anthem’s work to address long-standing racial and health inequities, and in a truly unique partnership element, whenever the four teams meet during the WNBA season, both teams will come together to host joint community activities that make an impact on health challenges in their respective cities.

The Atlanta Dream will tip-off their 14th season in the WNBA in 2021. Atlanta holds the No. 3 pick in the 2021 WNBA Draft. The organization, who will play its home games at the Gateway Center Arena @ College Park, has qualified for the WNBA Playoffs in nine of its first 13 seasons.
