Assistant Coach

Vickie Johnson joined the Atlanta Dream prior to the 2023 season, reuniting with Head Coach Tanisha Wright after a successful stint together with the Las Vegas Aces in 2020.

Johnson’s WNBA resume spans 25 years as both a player and coach. She was drafted 12th overall by the New York Liberty in the inaugural WNBA Elite Draft in 1997. She played in the league for 13 seasons, competing in two WNBA All-Star Games and earning the Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award in 2008. After becoming the first Liberty player to reach 2,000 career points, she played her final four seasons with the San Antonio Silver Stars.

She began her coaching career as an assistant in San Antonio in 2011 and was ultimately promoted to head coach in 2017. Working with Wright as an assistant coach in Las Vegas in 2020, the duo coached the Aces all the way to the WNBA Finals.

After leaving Las Vegas, Johnson served as head coach of the Dallas Wings for two seasons, leading the Wings to playoff berths in both 2021 and 2022. She has also served as an assistant coach and a court couch for the USA Women’s National Team under head coach Dawn Staley in 2019 and Cheryl Reeve in 2022.
