Dream Announces 2009 Schedule

DREAM TIPS OFF 2009 WNBA SEASON JUNE 6
-- Dream To Open 2009 Season At Home Against Indiana Fever --

ATLANTA, December 18, 2008 After a busy week that saw the Dream land the first overall 2009 WNBA draft selection and trade for the rights of WNBA star Chamique Holdsclaw, the Dream announced today its 2009 schedule. The Dream will tip off its second season on Saturday, June 6 against the Indiana Fever at Philips Arena, marking the first of 17 home games slated for 2009. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. against the Fever, which is led by WNBA All-Star Tamika Catchings.

The Dreams 2009 schedule is highlighted by ten weekend home games and includes two home matchups against the defending champion Detroit Shock (June 26 and August 13). In August, the Dream will play seven of ten games at home, including a six-game home stand at Philips Arena. Other notable matchups include a visit from Lisa Leslie, Candace Parker and the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday, August 23 and a nationally televised matchup on ESPN2 against the Minnesota Lynx on June 30.

The 2009 WNBA season will mark the first year of a new eight-year deal that allows ABC, ESPN and ESPN2 to televise games through the 2016 season. The agreement, officially announced in July 2007, will see the league receive a rights fee, a first for a U.S. professional womens team sports league. It also extends the WNBAs relationship with ESPN, which began with the leagues inaugural season in 1997, to 20 seasons.
