Dream Signs Guard Erica Wheeler

ATLANTA, May 25, 2015 — The WNBA Atlanta Dream announced today that the team has signed guard Erica Wheeler to a training camp contract. Per team policy, contract terms were not disclosed.

The five-foot, seven-inch Wheeler had played professionally oversees in Puerto Rico and Turkey before recently completing a season in Brazil playing for Recife, averaging 16.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists. She graduated from Rutgers in 2013, earning Honorable Mention All-BIG EAST honors as a senior after averaging 10.5 points per game while shooting 35.4 percent from three-point range.

In addition, the Dream waived guard Chucky Jeffery, forward/center Monique Oliver and center Lauren Okafor.

The three-time Eastern Conference Champion Atlanta Dream opens its eighth season in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) on June 5 at New York, with the home opener slated for Sunday, June 7 at 3 p.m. ET vs. the Connecticut Sun. The Dream, which plays its home games at Philips Arena, has qualified for the playoffs in each of the past six seasons, winning conference titles in 2013, 2011 and 2010.
