ARLINGTON, Texas –Elizabeth Williams and Tiffany Hayes combined for 31 points but the Atlanta Dream (1-5) fell to the Dallas Wings 71-61 Saturday night at the College Park Center.
Atlanta led at the half by four points but couldn’t hold on as Dallas outscored the Dream 43-29 over the final 20 minutes. The Dream started the game strong, displaying some of their trademark defense in the first quarter by holding Dallas to just eight points. The Wings shot 35.1% from the floor on the evening but it wasn’t enough for the Dream to earn a road win.
The Wings (1-5) picked up their first win of the season Saturday and snapped a seven-game losing streak, which extended back to the 2018 season.
Williams played her best game of the young season Saturday. The center grabbed eight boards and blocked two shots to go with her team-high in points. She was a perfect 4-4 from the field and 4-4 from the free throw line in the first half, picking up 12 of her 16 points before halftime.
Hayes finished with 15 points and three assists, while Alex Bentley added 11 points off the bench, knocking down three 3-point field goals.
The Dream return to Atlanta for Wednesday’s midday matchup against the Indiana Fever at 11:00 a.m. at State Farm Arena. It is Superhero Kids Day presented by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and all children under 12 will receive superhero mask.
