INDIANAPOLIS – Tiffany Hayes shot back-to-back three pointers to earn six of her 34 points in the final minute of the game, but the Fever held off the Dream for an 87-82 win Saturday afternoon at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Hayes’ 12 made field goals and four three-pointers helped her pace the Dream in scoring for the eighth time this season, leading the Dream in one of the team’s most productive offensive performances of the season.
A close first quarter saw five tied scores and nine lead changes, with the Dream finishing the frame in a one-point lead behind a pair of free throws from Maite Cazorla. The Fever pulled ahead of the Dream in the second, outshooting Atlanta to hold a two-point lead at halftime.
A tougher defensive effort coming out of halftime held the Fever to just 38.1 percent shooting from the field, compared to Atlanta’s game-high 64.3 percent shooting, helping them to outscore the Fever by five points in the third quarter to regain the lead. Atlanta shot 50 percent through the first 30 minutes of the game, but a less-productive offense and 15 free throws from Indiana helped the Fever pull back into a lead that the Dream could not overcome.
Atlanta continues its three-game road stretch this Tuesday at Las Vegas. Fans can stream the game on Twitter beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET.
