The team was honored for their work to fight racial injustice and voter suppression in 2020
ATLANTA – The Atlanta Dream were honored with two community awards this week in recognition of the 2020 team’s social justice efforts – the Clio Sports’ Impact Award and Athlete Ally’s Action Award. Dream center and Athlete Ally ambassador Elizabeth Williams accepted the awards on the Dream’s behalf.
“I would like to thank Clio Sports and Athlete Ally for their innovative awards recognizing the Atlanta Dream for their community service work,” said Co-Owner and Vice President Renee Montgomery. “Both the players and members of the Dream organization in 2020 championed social justice and were proud to stand with the city of Atlanta. 2020 was just the beginning.”
Clio Sports, the awards program that honors the best in sports advertising and marketing around the globe, recognized the Dream for the franchise’s work in shining a light on racial justice and voter suppression.
Athlete Ally recognized the franchise for the team’s leadership championing racial justice and trans inclusion. The Action Awards celebrate the pioneering actions of organizations and individuals that help create LGBTQI+ inclusive athletic environments and eliminate anti-LGBTQI+ discrimination at large. The Dream were honored alongside Olympic gold medalist Quinn and the Washington University of St. Louis Athlete Ally Campus Chapter.
In July, the Dream were named the ESPN Sports Humanitarian Team of the Year to honor the 2020 Dream players’ remarkable work championing social justice, promoting voting rights, and supporting Reverend Warnock in his Senate contest against the former Dream owner, thereby influencing the Georgia Senate election and ultimately the balance of power in the U.S. government.
