Atlanta Dream, Coach Collen to Participate in National Girls & Women in Sports Week

The Dream are taking part in multiple events around Atlanta to recognize the national celebration of women in sports

The Atlanta Dream is excited to have our head coach Nicki Collen back in Atlanta to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The nation will be celebrating the day on February 7 but we have planned a week work of activities to highlight women in sport.

Dream President, Theresa Wenzel, will tip off the week by participating in a panel on February 4th at Vanderbilt prior to their game against Tennessee.  The topic for the panel is “The future of the sports industry and how to get involved.”

On Monday, February 5th, our head coach, Nicki Collen, will first pay a visit to a local YMCA on to participate in a special basketball clinic for youth athletes. Later that night, Collen will be in studio with Crush Sports Radio to talk Dream basketball. Make sure to tune in by visiting:

The week continues Tuesday with a special Nicki Collen Meet & Greet with Georgia State’s WomenLead group, where she will share an inspiring message on career, ambition, and defining moments. In the evening, Collen will participate in a special event at the Center for Civil & Human Rights. The Center is hosting a special “Breaking Barriers: Sports for Change” reception beginning at 6:30 p.m., which includes an opportunity to mix and mingle with Collen, 1968 Olympic Gold Medalist Dr. Tommie Smith and 1968 Olympic Gold Medalist Mel Pender.

On National Girls and Women in Sports Day, Collen will participate in a panel at the Georgia State Capital on “Issues facing Women and Girls in Sports.” The panel will also include LaChina Robinson (Dream Analyst), Joeleen Akin (Georgia Tech Athletics), Dr. Robin Hines (Georgia High School Association), Mo Isom (Former NCAA Soccer Player), Morgan Shaw Parker (VP AMBSE Media Group) and Welch Suggs (Professor, UGA). To celebrate the day, the Women’s Sports Foundation will be using the hashtag #NGWSD. Later that day, Collen will make a visit to a Girls on the Run event to speak to participants on the importance of sports to women.

To close out her week in Atlanta, Collen will serve as a keynote speaker for a liveSAFE Resources luncheon at Suntrust Park. In the evening, Collen will be in attendance for the Georgia Tech vs. Boston College women’s basketball game at McCamish Pavilion.
