Elizabeth Williams Wins June WNBA Community Service Award

NEW YORK (July 22, 2016) – The Atlanta Dream’s Elizabeth Williams has been awarded the June WNBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by State Farm for her efforts to encourage youth education and literacy through the Dream’s recent community initiatives in the greater Atlanta area.

Williams has a passion for supporting education and throughout the month of June, dedicated her time to participating in several literacy events benefiting local youth.  She attended summer reading tip-off parties at the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library and Conyers Public Library, where she read books to youth and stressed the important role literacy plays in their ongoing education. In recent months, Williams has participated in numerous reading timeouts and has expressed the importance of reading in helping her prepare for her collegiate years.

Additionally, she joined her teammates and Dream staff for the “Take the Show on the Road” event at Meadowcreek High School in Norcross, Ga., to provide a special night for fans.  The fun-filled evening featured contests, games and autograph signings for youth and their families.

“As members of the Atlanta Dream, we represent Atlanta on and off the court, and a big part of that is impacting our community in any way possible,” said Williams.  “Whether it is reading to young children or encouraging them to stay active, I truly enjoy giving back to this community!”

The WNBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by State Farm is awarded monthly during the season to the player who best reflects the WNBA’s passion to make a difference in the community.  In recognition of Williams’ efforts, the WNBA and State Farm will make a $7,500 donation to support both St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital and Grady Health Foundation
