Dream will honor active duty military members and veterans to tip off 4th of July Homestand
ATLANTA (June 29, 2016) – The Atlanta Dream will honor active-duty military members and veterans during its annual “Hoops for Troops” game, presented by Wells Fargo, on Sunday, July 3 when it hosts Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury in a 6 p.m. ET tip off at Philips Arena.
The game, which will kick off a two-game Fourth of July Weekend homestand for Atlanta, will feature a number of special ceremonies and presentations honoring the men and women who protect our nation.
All attending members of the military will be recognized during the game and will receive a special discount on tickets and merchandise with a valid military ID. Ticket specials include up to a 33 percent discount off regular prices that start at $14 when a valid military ID is presented at the box office.
In addition, the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a free camo keychain upon entry to the arena.
Festivities will begin with an unveiling of a court-sized American Flag prior to the playing of the National Anthem. All military active/vets in attendance will be encouraged to sign up upon arrival in the concourse to participate in the holding of the flag, along with their families.
The night will also be a celebration of America as in-game music will feature a patriotic theme and military personnel and veterans will take part in on-court contests and promotions throughout the evening.
During one of the game’s first half timeouts, the Dream will recognize the surviving members of the “Original Montford Pointers” from the Montford Point Marine Association, Inc – Atlanta Chapter as the Military Family of the Game. Approximately 20,000 African American Marines received basic training at Montford Point between 1942 and 1949.
The Dream will be returning home to Philips Arena for the first time following a three-game, nine-day road trip that saw it face San Antonio, Seattle and Los Angeles.
Sunday’s meeting against the Mercury will mark the first of two games over a three-day span over the Fourth of July holiday period as Atlanta will also host former UConn standout and 2016 WNBA No. 1 overall pick Brianna Stewart and the Seattle Storm on Tuesday, July 5 beginning at 7 p.m.
