Dream Drops Preseason Meeting to Chicago Sky 95-75

Atlanta closes out preseason road trip on Saturday at Los Angeles

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (May 5, 2016) – The Atlanta Dream fell behind 17-4 in the opening 7:17 of the first quarter and was unable to recover as it came up on the short end of a 95-75 decision vs. the Chicago Sky in a preseason game on Thursday evening at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Chicago took control early via the 17-4 run in the opening moments and added to its advantage with a 12-2 spurt over a 2:20 span in the second quarter to open up a 21-point advantage at 43-22 with 4:51 remaining until halftime.

The loss drops Atlanta to 0-2 in preseason action, while Chicago moves to 2-1 in exhibition play.  The Dream never led in the setback, while the Sky’s lead bulged to as many as 26 points.

Elizabeth Williams paced Atlanta in defeat with a team-high 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while adding three blocks. DeLisha Milton-Jones notched 10 points to round out Atlanta’s double-digit point producers.  Meighan Simmons dropped a pair of three-point field goals for the second consecutive game and finished with eight points.

Betnijah Laney led Chicago in victory with a game-best 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting.   Elena Delle Donne, Cheyenne Parker and Clarissa Dos Santos each tallied 10.

Atlanta played the contest without three starters from last season’s squad as Angel McCoughtry, Sancho Lyttle and Damiris Dantas did not make the trip as they each wrap up their overseas and international commitments.

The Dream continues their current preseason road trip with a visit to Los Angeles on Saturday to battle the Sparks in a 7 p.m. ET tip at Pasadena City College.

Atlanta concludes the preseason with its lone home contest of the exhibition schedule on Tuesday, May 10 at 7 p.m. in a game that will be played at McCamish Pavilion on the campus of Georgia Tech.

The three-time Eastern Conference Champion Atlanta Dream is entering its ninth season in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).
