Tiffany Hayes Named to WNBA All-Rookie Team

ATLANTA, Oct. 8, 2012 Atlanta Dream guard Tiffany Hayes is one of five players who have been named to the 2012 WNBA All-Rookie Team, the league office has announced. Hayes is just the second Dream player ever to earn All-Rookie Team honors, joining Angel McCoughtry (2009).

Joining Hayes on the All-Rookie team are Nneka Ogwumike of the Los Angeles Sparks, the Tulsa Shocks Glory Johnson and Riquna Williams and the Phoenix Mercurys Samantha Prahalis.

The voting panel for the team consisted of the WNBAs 12 head coaches, each of whom voted for five players regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Ogwumike and Johnson each received 11 votes, Hayes and Prahalis each garnered nine, and Williams tallied eight.

A second-round draft selection and two-time NCAA champion (2009, 2010), Hayes played in 34 games for Atlanta, starting 17. The University of Connecticut alumna ranked second among rookies in assists (2.1 apg), fifth in scoring (8.6 ppg) and 10th in rebounding (3.1 rpg).

Hayes reached double figures in scoring 16 times, and averaged 11.9 points per game during her 17 starts. On July 7, she recorded a career-high 23 points during a 100-93 double overtime win on the road against Phoenix. She was fourth on the team with 21 three-point baskets, and added 28 steals and 12 blocked shots this season.

The two-time Eastern Conference Champion Atlanta Dream recently completed its fifth season in the Womens National Basketball Association (WNBA), making its fourth consecutive playoff appearance.
