Sancho Lyttle, Armintie Price Named to WNBA All-Defensive Teams

ATLANTA, Sept. 28, 2012 Atlanta Dream forward Sancho Lyttle has been named to the 2012 WNBA All-Defensive First Team, while guard Armintie Price was a second-team selection, the league office has announced.

Lyttle was named to the All-Defensive First Team for the first time in her career, after being a second-team selection in each of the three previous seasons. For Price, it was her second straight appearance on the All-Defensive Second Team.

A panel of the WNBAs 12 head coaches voted on the WNBA All-Defensive Team, selecting First- and Second-Teams by position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players from their own team. Players earned five points for each First Team vote and three points for a Second Team vote.

Lyttle received 26 points and was named on four First-Team ballots. Joining her on the All-Defensive First Team were Indiana forward Tamika Catchings, Chicago center Sylvia Fowles, Los Angeles guard Alana Beard and Indiana guard Briann January.

Price received 18 points in the voting and was named on the first-team ballot of three coaches. Also on the All-Defensive Second Team were San Antonio forward Sophia Young, Connecticut center Tina Charles, San Antonio guard Danielle Robinson and Los Angeles forward Candace Parker.

Lyttle led all players in the WNBA with 82 steals this season, breaking the Dreams single-season record. Her average of 2.41 steals per game ranked second in the league, behind only teammate Angel McCoughtry. Lyttle also averaged 6.2 defensive rebounds per game, which ranked fourth in the league, and was tied for third on the team with 23 blocked shots.

Price had 39 steals in 2012 (1.15 steals per game) and blocked 10 shots from her guard spot. She continued to solidify her reputation as an exceptional on-the-ball defender and routinely guarded the oppositions best perimeter player.

It marked the third consecutive year that the Dream had a player on the All-Defensive First Team, and the fourth straight year that at least two Dream players were on the first or second teams.

The two-time Eastern Conference Champion Atlanta Dream recently completed its fifth season in the Womens National Basketball Association (WNBA), making its fourth consecutive playoff appearance.
