Overseas Update - March 18

Erika de Souza � Sport Recife (Brazil): Sport Recife won its first game in the semifinals of its league playoffs, defeating Sao Jose Colinas Shopping by a score of 73-58 on March 16 to start the best-of-three series. In the victory, de Souza had a game-high 21 points and added seven rebounds and a pair of assists. Sport Recife finished the regular season in first place at 6-0, and including the one playoff game, de Souza is averaging 14.4 points and a league-leading 10.4 rebounds per game in seven contests.

Tiffany Hayes � Besiktas (Turkey): Hayes did not play as Besiktas lost its only game last week, falling to Antakya 91-52 on March 16, to fall to 6-18 overall. Hayes is now averaging 8.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in her first eight games with the club. Hayes previously played for Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion of Israel, and averaged 18.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.7 steals in 10 games with the club.

Aneika Henry � Rivas Ecopolis (Spain): Rivas Ecopolis won twice last week to improve to 18-1 in the Spanish League. During a 60-47 win over Conquero on March 13, she took just one shot, making it for two points while adding six rebounds. In an 86-55 rout of Bembibre on March 16, she had 12 points and two boards in only 16 minutes of action. Henry is now averaging 9.4 points and 7.1 boards in Spanish League games for Rivas Ecopolis, and finished EuroLeague competition averaging 11.4 points and 8.5 rebounds in 15 EuroLeague games.

Armintie Herrington � Besiktas (Turkey): Herrington did not play as Besiktas lost its only game last week, falling to Antakya 91-52 on March 16, to fall to 6-18 overall. In her 11 games with the club, Herrington is averaging 9.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.6 steals.

Cathrine Kraayeveld � Shinhan Bank (South Korea): Shinhan Bank finished the season 24-11 in the South Korean League, in a tie for first place. In her 15 games with the team, Kraayeveld averaged 14.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

Yelena Leuchanka � Liaoning (China): Leuchanka played in 18 games this season for Liaoning, which finished 14-8 and in third place in the Chinese League. In her 18 games with the club, Leuchanka averaged 17.7 points and 9.1 rebounds.

Sancho Lyttle � Galatasaray (Turkey): Galatasaray opened play at the EuroLeague Final Eight with a 71-65 loss to Good Angels Kosice on Monday. The team will have two more games in pool play to attempt to advance to the semifinals. Lyttle had 15 points and two rebounds in the loss and is now averaging 11.5 points, 7.2 boards and 2.5 steals in 15 EuroLeague games. Prior to heading to the Final Eight, Galatasaray lost a Turkish League showdown against league-leader Fenerbahce on March 14, falling 75-71 to drop to 19-5. Lyttle had 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals in the game, and now averages 11.0 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.0 steals in 24 Turkish League games.

Angel McCoughtry � Fenerbahce (Turkey): Fenerbahce opened play at the EuroLeague Final Eight with a 69-44 victory over Bourges Basket on Monday. The team needs to win one of its next two games in group play to advance to the semifinals. McCoughtry had 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals in the victory and is now averaging 14.7 points, 7.6 boards and 2.1 steals in 15 EuroLeague games. Prior to heading to the Final Eight, Fenerbahce won a crucial Turkish League game against Galatasaray on March 14 by a score of 75-71 to improve to 21-2. McCoughtry had 26 points, three boards and two steals, and is now averaging a team-high 15.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 steals in 18 Turkish League games.

Jasmine Thomas � Vologda-Chevakata (Russia): Vologda-Chevakata did not play last week, and remains 6-10 in the Russian League. Thomas is averaging 7.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 16 Russian League games. She also played in all 12 of the team�s EuroCup games before the team was eliminated, averaging 10.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists.

Le'Coe Willingham � Perfumerias Avenida (Spain): Perfumerias Avenida won twice in the Spanish League last week to improve to 15-3, remaining in second place. Willingham did not play in a 69-45 win over UNB Obenasa on March 13. During an 85-75 victory over Conquero on March 17, she played 18 minutes, totaling seven points, four rebounds and two assists. Willingham is now averaging 11.0 points and 6.3 boards in 12 Spanish League games this season for Perfumerias, which is 13-3 and in second place. Willingham also averaged 12.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists in nine EuroLeague games this season before her team was eliminated from the playoffs.
