Overseas Update - March 11

Erika de Souza � Sport Recife (Brazil): Sport Recife did not play last week while waiting to find out which team it will face in the semifinals of its league playoffs. Sport Recife finished the regular season in first place at 6-0 and will begin a semifinal series against one of the teams currently playing in the quarterfinals on March 16. In six games, de Souza is averaging 13.3 points and a league-leading 11.0 rebounds per game.

Tiffany Hayes � Besiktas (Turkey): Besiktas split two games last week to move to 6-17 overall. During a 73-59 win over Canik Bld on March 6, Hayes scored a team-high 17 points off the bench, making 6-of-7 shots and all five free throws, with five rebounds. In a 70-58 loss at Mersin on March 10, Hayes played only one minute, totaling two points and a rebound. Hayes is now averaging 8.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in her first eight games with the club. Hayes previously played for Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion of Israel, and averaged 18.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.7 steals in 10 games with the club.

Aneika Henry � Rivas Ecopolis (Spain): Henry was named the MVP of the Final as Rivas Ecopolis won its second Copa de la Reina title in three years with an 83-62 win over Perfumerias Avenida on March 10. Henry had team highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds in the final, with a pair of assists as well. She helped her team reach the final by totaling six points and seven rebounds during a 71-48 win over Spar Unigirona in the semifinals. Henry is averaging 9.7 points and 7.5 boards in Spanish League games for Rivas Ecopolis, which is 16-1 in the league, and she finished EuroLeague competition averaging 11.4 points and 8.5 rebounds in 15 EuroLeague games.

Armintie Herrington � Besiktas (Turkey): Besiktas split two games last week to move to 6-17 overall. During a 73-59 win over Canik Bld on March 6, Herrington came close to a triple-double, collecting 10 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and four steals. In a 70-58 loss at Mersin on March 10, she was limited to three points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals. In her 11 games with the club, Herrington is averaging 9.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.6 steals.

Cathrine Kraayeveld � Shinhan Bank (South Korea): Shinhan Bank finished the season 24-11 in the South Korean League, in a tie for first place. In her 15 games with the team, Kraayeveld averaged 14.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

Yelena Leuchanka � Liaoning (China): Leuchanka played in 18 games this season for Liaoning, which finished 14-8 and in third place in the Chinese League. In her 18 games with the club, Leuchanka averaged 17.7 points and 9.1 rebounds.

Sancho Lyttle � Galatasaray (Turkey): Galatasaray split two games in the Turkish League last week to move to 19-4, now 1.5 games out of first place. In a 77-68 loss to Mersin on March 6, Lyttle had 14 points and three assists. She helped the team rebound with a 60-49 victory over Antakya on March 10, with six points and seven rebounds off the bench. Lyttle now averages 10.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.9 steals in 23 Turkish League games. Galatasaray did not play in EuroLeague competition last week, having already secured a spot in the Final Eight in Ekaterinburg, Russia. The team will open in the Final Eight against Good Angels Kosice on March 18. Lyttle is averaging 11.2 points, 7.6 boards and 2.6 steals in 14 EuroLeague games.

Angel McCoughtry � Fenerbahce (Turkey): Fenerbahce won its only Turkish League game last week to improve to 20-2, remaining in first place by 1.5 games. The team blasted Edremit on March 9 by a score of 103-58, with McCoughtry only needing to play 10 minutes. Even in limited action she totaled 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. McCoughtry is now averaging a team-high 14.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.6 steals in 17 Turkish League games. Fenerbahce did not play in EuroLeague competition last week, having already secured a spot in the Final Eight in Ekaterinburg, Russia. The team will open in the Final Eight against Bourges Basket on March 18. McCoughtry is averaging 14.5 points, 7.6 boards and 2.0 steals in 14 EuroLeague games.

Jasmine Thomas � Vologda-Chevakata (Russia): Vologda-Chevakata lost its only game of the week to fall to 6-10 in the Russian League. In a 71-66 home loss to Spartak, Thomas poured in 18 points with six assists, and is now averaging 7.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 16 Russian League games. She also played in all 12 of the team�s EuroCup games before the team was eliminated, averaging 10.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists.

Le'Coe Willingham � Perfumerias Avenida (Spain): Perfumerias Avenida reached the Copa de la Reina final, but fell to Rivas Ecopolis on March 10 by a score of 83-62. Willingham had 10 points and seven rebounds in the final. She helped her team reach the final by collecting 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists in an 83-57 win over Tintos de Toro Caja Rural in the semifinals. Willingham is averaging 11.4 points and 6.5 boards in 11 Spanish League games this season for Perfumerias, which is 13-3 and in second place. Willingham also averaged 12.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists in nine EuroLeague games this season before her team was eliminated from the playoffs.
