Sancho Lyttle Named 2013 FIBA Europe Women's Player of the Year

ATLANTA, Feb. 7, 2014 Atlanta Dream forward Sancho Lyttle has been named the 2013 FIBA Europe Womens Player of the Year. Lyttle earned the award based largely on her tournament MVP performance while helping Spain win the gold medal at EuroBasket Women in June.

Lyttle was the top player at the EuroBasket competition, leading all players in scoring (18.4), rebounds (11.1), steals (2.9) and double-doubles (seven in nine games). In a 70-69 victory over host France in the gold-medal game, Lyttle collected 20 points, 11 boards, four steals and a pair of assists to help Spain win its first EuroBasket title in two decades.

FIBA Europe likes to award people for their hard work, and it is therefore fitting for the award to go to Lyttle, a tireless worker on the court who, for me, epitomized the ideals of hard work at EuroBasket Women, said FIBA Europe Secretary General Kamil Novak.

In 128 career games with the Dream over five seasons, Lyttle have averaged 12.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game, ranking second in team history in all three categories.

The three-time Eastern Conference Champion Atlanta Dream tips off its seventh season in the Womens National Basketball Association (WNBA) on May 16 against the San Antonio Stars in Philips Arena. The Dream has qualified for the playoffs in each of the past five seasons, including conference titles in 2013, 2011 and 2010.
