Dream and Grady Health System Raise $32,500 for Breast Health Awareness through Dream Pink Campaign

ATLANTA, August 22, 2014 The WNBA Atlanta Dream raised $32,500 for Gradys Avon Comprehensive Breast Center as part of the teams Dream Pink initiatives over the past several weeks. A check for that amount will be presented to Dr. Sheryl Gabram-Mendola, Surgeon-in-Chief at Grady Memorial Hospital and Medical Director of the Avon Breast Center at tonights Eastern Conference Semifinal Game against the Chicago Sky. The game begins at 7:30 p.m. ET.

"It is a great honor for the Atlanta Dream organization to partner with Grady's Avon Breast Center to raise funds for such a worthy cause as breast health awareness, said Dream President and General Manager Angela Taylor. The outpouring of support from around the globe for this year's Dream Pink auction was incredible, and as a result, we are proud to donate over $30,000 to the foundation. We thank all of our Dream fans and supporters for their contributions, which will have a tremendous impact on the lives of many for years to come."

We are proud to be able to partner with the Atlanta Dream and benefit from their commitment to making a difference in our community. Funds raised through the Dream Pink initiative will help provide hope and care for our patients, said Dr. Gabram-Mendola.

The Dream and Grady partnered to raise funds through a three-part process: a live auction, an on-line auction, and a social media campaign.

The live auction followed the Dreams Aug. 3 Dream Pink game against the New York Liberty, and included the teams game-worn pink uniforms as well as unique fan experiences with Dream players. The on-line auction concluded Aug. 15 and included sports memorabilia from various professional and college teams from numerous sports, as well as gifts and prizes from local merchants.

The Dream and Grady also conducted a #DreamDollar social media campaign, asking all fans to donate at least one dollar to the cause.

The total was the most ever raised from the Dreams annual Dream Pink initiative.

The Dream Pink initiatives were held in conjunction with the WNBAs league-wide Breast Health Awareness program, which focuses on generating awareness and educating women about breast cancer in addition to raising funds for the initiative. This season, the WNBA held Breast Health Awareness Week from July 28-Aug. 3.
