ATLANTA, May 18, 2012 The Atlanta Dream has renewed its television partnership with FOX Sports South and SportSouth for the 2012 WNBA season.
All Dream home games, with the exception of the Dreams nationally televised game on August 25, will be televised on FOX Sports South and SportSouth. Coverage on SportSouth will also include four road matchups: May 19 at the Indiana Fever, July 13 at the San Antonio Silver Stars, August 18 at the Indiana Fever, and September 7 at the Minnesota Lynx.
We are excited to extend our broadcast partnership with FOX Sports South and SportSouth to continue to provide high-definition coverage of Atlanta Dream games throughout the Southeast, said Dream CEO Pete Canalichio. With this partnership, our fans will be able to enjoy a record number of Dream games on the network leader for regional sports programming. The 2012 roster includes five newcomers and the return of center Yelena Leuchanka. Leuchanka did not play in the WNBA last year due to commitments to the Belarus national team. The newcomers include rookies Tiffany Hayes and Aneika Henry, and free agent signees Laurie Koehn, Cathrine Kraayeveld and Ketia Swanier.
We are excited to bring fans more games than ever before, in this our third season as the television home of the Dream, said Jeff Genthner, senior vice president and general manager of FOX Sports South and SportSouth. The Dream have shown great success on the court, playing for the WNBA Finals Championship in each of the past two seasons, and off the court as well, as a champion in the Atlanta community.
The telecast schedule begins with the Dreams regular season opener on the road against WNBA MVP Tamika Catchings and the Indiana Fever on May 19 at 7:00 p.m. Coverage continues with the Dreams opening weekend at home on FOX Sports South as the Dream host the New York Liberty on May 25 at 7:30 p.m. and the Indiana Fever on May 27 at 3:00 p.m.
Other key televised matchups include a visit by Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury on May 31, a matchup against Candace Parker and the Los Angeles Sparks on June 15, and a WNBA Finals road re-match against Maya Moore and the Minnesota Lynx on September 7.
Bob Rathbun and LaChina Robinson will return for their third season together as the broadcast team for all Atlanta Dream games on FOX Sports South and SportSouth. Rathbun has been the FOX Sports South and SportSouth play-by-play announcer for the Atlanta Hawks for the past 16 seasons. Robinson, who was a four-year starter at Wake Forest University, also serves as an analyst for womens basketball on FOX Sports South.
The Atlanta Dream tips off its fifth season this summer at Philips Arena as part of the Womens National Basketball Association (WNBA), the worlds longest-running womens professional sports league. The Dream, the defending two-time, back-to-back Eastern Conference Champion, opens its regular season home schedule on May 25 against the New York Liberty at 7:30 p.m. Single game, group and season tickets are on sale now.
