Dream Players Give Back
Thanksgiving is a time to not only give thanks for the gifts you have, but also to give back to those less fortunate and those in need. It�s a time when many people choose to donate their time, money and/or energy to worthy causes and charities.
This Thanksgiving, most of the Atlanta Dream players are competing overseas with basketball teams around the globe. But two Dream players - Lindsey Harding and Armintie Price � decided instead to stay in Atlanta, and much of their time since the season ended has been spent giving back to the Atlanta community. Even Head Coach/General Manager Fred Williams has pitched in whenever and wherever he can.
From speaking to youth groups and at conferences, to participating in a school mentoring program, Harding and Price have stayed busy this fall. Just this morning, two days before Thanksgiving, Harding participated in the Atlanta Community Food Bank�s �Great Thanksgiving Dish�, preparing meals to be sent to needy families.
�Knowing that 2700 families are going to be fed, and that I had a hand in it, makes me feel good,� said Harding. �You can�t solve all the world�s problems in one day, but if you can do something for others that might take their mind off their problems even for one day, that�s great.�
Price especially enjoys projects that involve kids, and loves the reaction the Dream players get upon arrival.
�What I enjoy most is the expression on kids� faces when we walk in,� said Price. �They see that we care enough to take the time out of our busy schedules to speak to them or spend time with them, and you just hope that maybe you can help turn someone�s life around.�
Both players say that while they are doing these events to help others, they can�t help but feel like they benefit from the experiences as well.
�Doing these events, especially during this season, and giving back to others is so rewarding,� said Harding. �You don�t have to give your money, or clothes, or other possessions, but just giving your time is so important.�
�After each one it always makes me feel like I want to do another one,� said Price. �It makes me feel good when they ask questions about their lives that relate to my story, and knowing that I may be able to inspire others.�
