DREAM WAIVES CHANTELLE ANDERSON AND MARLIES GIPSON

ATLANTA, May 31, 2009 The Atlanta Dream announced today the team has waived center Chantelle Anderson and forward Marlies Gipson. Todays moves cut the Dreams roster to 12 players. All teams must finalize their 11-player roster by Friday, June 5.

Anderson, a 6-6 center from Vanderbilt University, was originally acquired by the Dream in the 2008 WNBA Expansion Draft from the San Antonio Silver Stars. She missed the 2008 season due to a torn ACL but stayed in Atlanta to serve as an ambassador for the team, doing extensive work in the community. The second overall pick in the 2003 WNBA Draft, Andersons career in the WNBA has been hindered by injuries. In her five-year career, she is averaging 4.1 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. Anderson appeared in one pre-season game for the Dream on May 27 vs. the Connecticut Sun.

Gipson, a 6-0 forward from Kansas State University, was signed to a training camp contract by the Dream on May 12, 2009. A four-year starter at Kansas State, Gipson was also a college teammate of the Dreams 2009 second round draft pick, Shalee Lehning. Gipson saw four minutes of action in the Dreams pre-season game against the Sun. She recorded five points on 2-2 shooting from the field.

The Dream will tip off its second season on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 7 p.m. against the Indiana Fever at Philips Arena.
