Shoni Schimmel, Angel McCoughtry Among All-Star Voting Leaders
Schimmel has received 14,635 votes, more than doubling her closest competitor among guards, as Washington�s Ivory Latta is second with 5,974 votes. In the frontcourt, Chicago�s Elena Delle Donne leads the way with 16,542 votes, while McCoughtry is next with 9,736. Indiana�s Tamika Catchings is third with 8,341, while Erika de Souza follows with 7,579. Sancho Lyttle (2,525) is currently ninth.
In addition to Delle Donne, the only other player from either league with more votes than Schimmel is Minnesota�s Maya Moore, who has received 16,509 votes to lead all Western Conference players.
The WNBA will announce the All-Star Game starters on July 8 during the nationally televised game on ESPN2 featuring the Los Angeles Sparks at the Minnesota Lynx (9 p.m. ET). Reserves, which are voted on by the WNBA�s head coaches, will be announced on ESPN2 on July 15, during the game between the Sparks and the Indiana Fever (8 p.m. ET).
Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star 2014 will take place at US Airways Center in Phoenix on Saturday, July 19, and will be nationally televised on ESPN, with tip-off at 3:30 p.m. ET (12:30 p.m. PT).
Fans can vote for up to 10 players per day on WNBA.com, mobile devices, and the WNBA Center Court App presented by Boost Mobile, and can share those All-Star picks with friends on Facebook and followers on Twitter, encouraging others to cast their ballots as well. Fans also can cast votes on Facebook and Twitter, voting for one player per day using the designated hashtag #WNBABALLOT.
Balloting will conclude at midnight ET on Wednesday, July 2.
Under WNBA guidelines, the coach of the previous season's conference champion serves as the All-Star coach for that conference, provided that the coach remains in the same position. Since Fred Williams, head coach of the 2013 Eastern Conference champion Atlanta Dream is now at the helm in Tulsa, the East head coach will be selected based on the club with the best winning percentage through games on June 29. Atlanta, which is 9-4 under first-year head coach Michael Cooper, currently holds a two-game lead in the Eastern Conference standings.
The three-time Eastern Conference Champion Atlanta Dream is in its seventh season in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The Dream has qualified for the playoffs in each of the past five seasons, including conference titles in 2013, 2011 and 2010.
