ATLANTA, December 8, 2008� The Atlanta Dream selected 6-4 forward Sancho Lyttle today with the first pick of the 2008 WNBA dispersal draft, following the league�s announcement last week that the Houston Comets will suspend operations for the 2009 season.

�Lyttle is going to add another dimension to our post game,� said Dream General Manager & Head Coach Marynell Meadors. �I think she is a great young player who is going to be in this league for a long time. She is a great rebounder, has the ability to finish inside and runs the floor well.�

In her fourth season in the WNBA, Lyttle had her best year as a pro in 2008, averaging 8.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game off the bench for the Comets. Lyttle appeared in 27 games for the Comets, including nine starts. A contender for the WNBA�s Most Improved Player in 2008, Lyttle shot 58.2% from the field last season.

After earning Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention honors at the University of Houston, Lyttle was selected by the Comets in the first round of the 2005 WNBA Draft with the fifth overall pick. In her senior season, Lyttle averaged a double-double, scoring 18.8 points per game and leading the nation in rebounding with a 12.1 rpg average. She spent the first two seasons of her collegiate career at Clarendon Junior College.

�When an opportunity like this knocks at your door, you take it with all your might and you go do what you are capable of doing,� said Lyttle. �Atlanta wanted a post player to rebound and play defense, and I guess they felt I was the best candidate for that.�

All players on the Comets roster, excluding unrestricted free agents Latasha Byears, Mwadi Mabika, Hamchetou Maiga-Ba, Michelle Snow and Tina Thompson, were eligible to be selected in the Dispersal Draft.

WNBA officials will conduct the 2009 WNBA Draft Lottery on Tuesday, December 9, 2008, which will include the five teams that did not qualify for the 2008 WNBA Playoffs. The lottery will establish the first five picks of the 2009 WNBA Draft. The order of selection for the remainder of the first round as well as the order of selection for the second and third round is determined by inverse order of their respective regular-season records.

�I�m very excited about it. We all have our fingers crossed, hoping to get that number one draft pick,� said Meadors. �I think today and tomorrow can certainly be big days for the Atlanta Dream.
