ATLANTA, May 1, 2013 The Atlanta Dream announced Wednesday that it completed its training camp roster by signing former San Diego State guard Courtney Clements to a training camp contract. Per team policy, contract terms were not disclosed. The Dreams 2013 training camp is slated to begin on Sunday, May 5.
Clements earned honorable mention All-America distinction and first-team all-Mountain West honors each of the past two seasons. The six-foot guard completed her collegiate career with 1,495 points, which ranks fifth on the Aztecs' all-time charts.
Clements, the 2012 Mountain West Player of the Year, averaged a team-high 17.9 points per game last season, which ranked second in the conference, and posted double-digit scoring totals in 32 of 34 games, surpassing the 20-point barrier on 14 occasions. She also ended the year ranked second in the Mountain West in 3-point field goals made (2.3/gm), fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (37.9) and ninth in steals (1.6/gm).
Clements will join the rest of the Dream training camp roster to compete for one of 11 roster spots. Final rosters must be set by May 23. The Dreams training camp will include a pair of exhibition contests, including a May 9 game at Tulsa and a May 13 game against the Brazilian National Team at Philips Arena. Regular season action tips off on May 25 when Atlanta hosts the Tulsa Shock at 7 p.m.
The Dream returns four starters from last years team that reached the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season. The team is led by All-Star forward Angel McCoughtry, who won the leagues scoring title and an Olympic gold medal as part of Team USA in 2012. She is joined in the backcourt by returner Armintie Herrington, while center Erika de Souza and forward Sancho Lyttle return for their sixth and fifth seasons, respectively, on the Dream roster.
New additions to the roster include guard Jasmine Thomas, who was acquired via a trade with Washington, free agent LeCoe Willingham, a veteran forward with two WNBA titles on her resume, and Alex Bentley from Penn State, who was the Dreams first selection in the 2013 WNBA Draft. Other hopefuls include former Georgia guard/forward Anne Marie Armstrong, a native of Norcross, Ga., and former Auburn guard/forward Blanche Alverson, who graduated from Buford (Ga.) High School.
The opening practice on May 5, like most practices during training camp, will be held at Philips Arena from 2-5 p.m. All practices are closed to the public and open to the media for the last hour of each day. Media interested in attending should contact the Atlanta Dreams media relations department, as practice times and locations are subject to change.
The two-time Eastern Conference Champion Atlanta Dream will tip off its sixth season in the Womens National Basketball Association (WNBA) on May 25 at Philips Arena against Tulsa. The Dream qualified for the playoffs in each of the past four seasons, including back-to-back conference titles in 2010 and 2011.
