Dream Make Moves on Draft Day

TAMPA, FL, April 9, 2008 The Atlanta Dream continued to build their roster with a busy day at the 2008 WNBA Draft, selecting James Madison guard Tamera Young in the first round and closing a draft day deal that puts Camille Little and former Georgia Tech standout Chioma Nnamaka in Dream uniform. The Dream also added University of Hartford forward Danielle Hood in the third round of the draft.

A 62 guard from Wilmington, North Carolina, Young becomes the first James Madison player ever to be selected by a WNBA team. She finished her senior season as the all-time leading scorer in the history of both the Colonial Athletic Association and James Madison University. Youngs play earned her numerous accolades in her collegiate career, including: Associated Press All-America honorable mention, Richmond Times-Dispatch All-State first team, 2008 Pre-season CAA Player of the Year and 2008 All-CAA first team. In her senior season, Young led the conference in scoring (20.4 ppg) and rebounding (10.4 rpg), while setting the school career scoring record with 2,121 total points. She is only the second player in school history to top the 1,000 mark in career rebounds.

In a draft day deal with the San Antonio Silver Stars, the two teams swapped their second round selections in part of a package deal. The Dream acquired forward Camille Little, guard Chioma Nnamaka (originally selected in the second round by San Antonio; 21st overall) and San Antonios first round draft pick in 2009. In exchange, San Antonio obtained center Ann Wauters, guard/forward Morenike Atunrase (originally selected in the second round by Atlanta; 24th overall) and Atlantas second round draft pick in 2009.

Hood, a 61 forward from Hartford, was selected by the Dream in the third round (32nd overall). She finished her career as the second all-time leading scorer in school history, helping the Hawks to the America East Conference Championship and the schools fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament. In her collegiate career, Hood was a three-time America East All Conference First Team selection.
