Converse College Girls Day Recap

Spartanburg, S.C. -- On Friday, March 21, Atlanta Dream staff members and team ambassador Rushia Brown took part in the first annual Girls Day at Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Approximately 500 girls, ages 6-14, participated in activities emphasizing the theme of Power, Strength and Confidence.

It was a kind of homecoming for Rushia, who attended Summerville High School before starring at Furman University in Greenville, SC. The girls were split into different groups and rotated stations throughout the day. Activities included a variety of sports, arts and crafts, music, science and even a fashion runway. Rushia proved herself to be a versatile athlete, as she split her time between the basketball court and the dodge ball station.

At the conclusion of the day, the girls gathered in the gym to listen to Rushia speak about the importance of making the right decisions in order to pursue your dreams. Rushia also had the chance to get to know the members of the Converse College womens basketball team as they collaborated to put on a basketball clinic for the campers. The team plans to make a trip to Atlanta in August to watch the Dream compete.

The event exceeded all expectations, according to event coordinator Ginny Alexander, who said the turnout doubled her original expectations.
