Game Preview: Dream @ Lynx (07/09/08)

With the first win in franchise history under their belt, the Dream kick off their longest road trip of the year against the Minnesota Lynx. This is the second matchup between the two teams. Minnesota won the first game 85-81 in Atlanta on June 3, 2008.

After starting the season 0-17, the Dream (1-17) recorded the first victory in franchise history against the Chicago Sky on July 5, 2008. It was an all-around team effort for the Dream, with ten players in the scoring column and a season-high six players finishgin in double figures scoring. Despite playing only 15 minutes because of foul trouble, Ivory Latta scored 18 points, including a driving layup with 1:12 remaining in the game to give the Dream a late three point lead. Latta was 5-7 from the field and a perfect 6-6 from the line. With Latta on the bench early, Kristin Haynie stepped up to record her best performance of the season. Haynie scored a season-high 11 points and recorded a career-high 11 assists and zero turnovers. Also in double figures were Jennifer Lacy (18 points, 6 rebounds), Tamera Young (10 points, 8 rebounds), Iziane Castro Marques (10 points) and Betty Lennox (10 points).

The Lynx (9-9) got off to a hot start this season, winning six of their first seven games. After a 91-76 road loss to the Seattle Storm on July 5, Minnesota has lost four in a row. In Saturday�s game, Seattle�s Lauren Jackson scored 16 of her season-high 34 points in the first quarter to lead the Storm to victory. The Lynx were led by rookie Nicky Anosike�s 15 points and five rebounds. Seimone Augustus and Candice Wiggins added 14 points apiece for the Lynx. Augustus and Wiggins have proved to be a double threat this season. Augustus averages 18.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. Despite having only recorded one start this season, Wiggins averages 17.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.9 steals in 29.3 minutes per game.

The Lynx lead the series with the Dream 1-0 after recording a 85-81 victory in the June 3 matchup at Philips Arena. In that game, Candice Wiggins scored all 22 of her points in the second half to help Minnesota to a 5-0 record , the best start in franchise history. Nicky Anosike recorded 20 points and 12 rebounds and Seimone Augustus added 19 points for Minnesota. The Dream were led by Betty Lennox�s 28 points and eight assists and Jennifer Lacy added 16 points.

The Dream�s Betty Lennox spent her first three seasons with Minnesota, earning Rookie of the Year honors in 2000.
