Game Preview: Dream vs. Fever (06/13/08)

VS.

The Atlanta Dream take on Katie Douglas and the Indiana Fever on Friday, June 13 at Philips Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm. In conjunction with Fathers Day, the game is designated as Dads and Daughters night at the arena.

The Dream have mixed up the starting lineups in recent games, trying to find the right chemistry. Forward Kristen Mann earned her first start against the New York Liberty on Wednesday night, scoring a season-high eight points. Guard Betty Lennox, among the leagues top scorers, continues to provide the offensive spark for the Dream. Point guard Ivory Latta, who assumed the starting position earlier this season, is becoming more comfortable running the teams offense. In recent games, she has proved to be a scoring threat for the Dream as well, and is among the league leaders in assists per game.

The Dream are coming off a 81-77 loss on Wednesday night to the Liberty. Atlanta let a 12-point fourth quarter slip away despite strong performances from Betty Lennox and Tamera Young. Lennox finished with 28 points and Young added a career-high 13 points for the Dream. Atlanta is still without Erika De Souza (lower leg fracture) and Iziane Castro Marques (in Brazil for Olympic qualifying tournament).

Indiana was busy making moves in the offseason. With a new coaching staff headed by Lin Dunn and a major free agent acquisition in two-time All-Star Katie Douglas, Indiana looks like a contender in the Eastern Conference. The Fever have been without Tamika Catchings, who has missed all season after tearing her right Achilles tendon in last years playoffs.

The Fever were also in action Wednesday, losing to the San Antonio Silver Stars 64-53. Indiana was led by the guard combo of Douglas and Tan White, who finished with 13 points apiece. Douglas (20 ppg) and White (14.4 ppg) have provided the scoring punch for the Fever this season. Acquired by Indiana this offseason, Douglas is among the league leaders in scoring, three-pointers and steals. Douglas and White are joined in the backcourt by defensive stopper Tully Beqvilaqua. In the post, the Fever are led by Ebony Hoffman and veteran Tammy Sutton-Brown.
